This article deals with the problem that many US veterans are now facing with. It’s stated that most of the veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan war become homeless after their military service years.
Accumulating problems with their living for several years after the wars have pushed them into the street. The returnees found themselves disconnected and alone. Some took several years to find a job and ended up an alcoholic and homeless.
Sexual abuse, trait of the current wars, poverty and high housing costs are risk factors for homelessness. The Veterans Affairs is putting effort into preventing homelessness by offering two years of free medical care and identifying psychological and substance abuse problems early.
Reading the article, I realize that it’s so difficult for veterans to make a living after returning home. In my opinion, the government as well as voluntaries organization should help returnees make a stable living after their military service with secured jobs.
